CELEBRATIONS

62^nd Independence Day celebrations was organized for the entire week prior to 15 August, 2009. Special assemblies organized presentations in the form of patriotic poems, famous speeches, songs and stories of our freedom.

Interhouse Choral Singing of Patriotic songs was held on Wednesday, 12 August, 2009 on the school terrace.

Tagore House won with 98 points, followed by Raman – 89 points, Gandhi – 87 points and Vivekananda – 82 points.

HINDI WEEK was celebrated between 14 September and 19 September, 2009 actively conducted by all the Hindi Staff.

Interhouse Hindi One-Act Plays were organized – a blend of hindi speaking skills and dramatization illustrated by our students. Interhouse Hindi Elocution was also organized on 11 September, 2009. the results are as follows:

The Hindi Interhouse elocution competition for standard III to V was organized on 10 September, as a platform for students to show their passion for Hindi. Elocution means an expert manner of speaking involving control of voice and gesture. Each one’s effort was praise worthy. Students recited poems on various topics such as importance of newspaper, Nature, pollution, Science – advantages and disadvantages, Astronomy etc. that created an impact through the use of distinct and well defined style of expression. All the participants were well prepared. It was an eloquent performance reflecting the desire to “Do one’s Best”.

The Paper Cutting and Origami Competition was held on the 07 September. The pictures depicted ideas and expressions which were woven together to form a complete and whole picture of the multicoloured and beautiful life. It was a real feast to the eyes and the judges had a tough time judging. We all were spell bound by their fine and flawless paintings. The paper cuttings gave us a vivid glimpse of nature. The viewers were delighted by their awesome imagination portrayed through colours which were different and novel. The competition was full of colour, creativity and fun.

Knowledge Week was organized between 15 and 17 September soon after the Hindi Week.

Various resource persons were invited to enlighten young minds of Std. 6 to Std. 8 and also enhance their level of self – confidence.

The schedule followed was as follows:

A team of ‘MARG’ SNDT students talked to students on nutrition, diet and obesity. Most of this was classwise using PPT presentation enlightening students on healthy eating habits. They also informed them on the ill – effects of incorrect diet.
Mr. Rao, an eminent speaker and managing director of Landmark Education addressed the students on how to be effective in difficult times.
Professor VIJAY SINGH the national coordinator for Science Olympiad addressed Std. 8 students on how to prepare oneself and take various competitive public examinations.
Std. VII students were given an opportunity to appreciate and enjoy Indian Classical Music. They attended a demo cum talk by Shri Dhruba Ghosh – Sarangi exponent at Sheila Raheja Hall on 15 September, 2009. This was co-sponsored by SPIC MACAY, a NGO propagating awareness for Indian Classical Music, tradition and culture.
Std. IX and X students attended talks on Cyber Crime and internet crime awareness. Std. XI and XII students as mentioned earlier attended a series of talks not – so – popular career options.
