A Report by Nishaat Rupani |
|

On 20 September, 2009, I attended the Book Release of the book ‘I Have A Dream’, in which an excerpt from my poem, “Celebrating Humanity”, was published. The felicitation took place on that beautiful Sunday morning in the Mumbai University Campus. The programme started off with excellent speeches from professors and the Guest of Honour, Mr. Cyrus Broacha, followed by cultural performances
including song sung by students and plays by younger children. The programme ended with a cultural Indian dance and the screening of a short movie which had to do with world peace and equality. It was a great experience for me and motivated me even more to promote world peace. Please get a copy of this wonderful book and check out the excellent artwork and thoughts of the youngistans who put together this inspiring book, “I have a Dream..”

The Most Important Invention in the History of Mankind |
|
| |
"Necessity is the mother of invention." In the history of mankind, because of the continuously – increasing needs in our ever – changing world, thousands of inventions have come about which have revolutionized the way we live and our existence or Earth. But few inventions have touched every aspect of our lives and changed the way we interact, work and live. Today, a machine has done all this and much more, and today exists in almost every household. I feel that the most significant and commendable invention in the history of mankind is the computer.
The computer is a truly remarkable and very important invention in the history of mankind. It has indeed changed our world. Early versions of the computer can be dated back to almost two thousand years ago – like the
abacus, developed by the Chinese. Modern computers were developed by great inventors like Charles Babbage and Blaise Pascal. Computers were originally invented to make computing and calculations faster, easier and more accurate. An extremely important aspect of their use is their application in processes of the business world. Today they are found everywhere, from grocery stores and banks to huge industries and airlines and they depend on computers, as they help in cutting costs drastically and help in providing high – quality products and services. Today they are essential for the normal functioning of any organization or industry and nobody can do without them. Super computers help in launching satellites, weather forecasts and even drilling out oil and so are very important and save many lives, too. Today, personal computers are found in almost every home and along with the internet, they make life much easier by producing all kinds of services within arm’s reach. One can communicate with far – off friends and family, know about what is happening all over the world, learn countless new things, procure assistance regarding all walks of life and do much more just sitting in an armchair. Computers today have evolved into a very important source of entertainment and people spend most of their leisure or free time playing computer games, listening to music or watching videos and doing innumerable remarkable things that centuries ago people could only dream of.
The computer is truly a window to the world. It familiarizes us with our ever-changing environment and modernizing society and makes us well – informed citizens of our world and interesting individuals. It has indeed become an indispensable part of ordinary life and mankind cannot do without it. It is truly a very important device for the whole of humanity as it has simplified our lives manifold and by helping man work out solutions to solve problems along with multifaced applications which are extremely time – saving, they have opened up new avenues where man can devote time and energy. The computer is truly an incredible and remarkable invention and its use has become so widespread that it is hard to imagine a world without computer. |
